So how about that guy thinking it was okay to shoot off a Ruger on Main Street because that's they way they do it in Newton County? ... Yeah, right. There and in -- oops -- just as I was looking to insert the name of a Middle Eastern culture that celebrates every conceivable event by shooting off firearms, I came across this post by jhenry on thefiringline.com: "Here in the Ozarks it is traditional to fire off guns right at midnight on New Years Eve and on the 4th of July. On the 4th we just shoot for fun interspersed throughout the day and to remind us of how our nation was fought for. On New Years we shoot at the stroke of midnight. I like to use good fireball stuff. A Mosin M38, a Tokarev in 7.62x25, and usually a M57 Smith with stout H110 loads. Those make a nice display. Traditionally this is done to scare the devil when the new year starts. In the city folks generally have lost this. Too bad for them." ... Okaaaay then, I do care how you do it in Newton County. ...
Lynn Larson could only laugh after emailing my Citizen co-worker for days about publicizing an upcoming raffle at the Berryville Ice Cream Social this coming weekend and then had to call it all off. ... Someone wanted to help People Helping People, an organization that provides prescription medicines the needy can't afford, by donating a beautiful cedar picnic table to be offered as a raffle prize. ... Problem is, Lynn sold a lot of tickets and just found out both the guy and the table have disappeared. ... "I guess I'm giving the raffle money I've collected back," said Lynn. "This is what life can be like." ... She said it with a smile though. You might want to stop by their booth on the Berryville Square Saturday and help them out anyway. ... Thought you might enjoy a snapshot from my Things I Wish I Could Unsee album of unerasable memories ... Really ladies? You think this is attractive? Somebody hand me the mental floss. ... Though that does give me an idea for the 2012 May Arts Invitational theme at Zark's Gallery: With a Thong in my Art. So email me, oliverdeplace@hotmail.com with your astute observations or post a comment on my new Facebook page. It's no fun having only six friends. |
