Me No Know

Posted Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at 3:31 PM

New reader, Mike, in Parker, Colo., gets my vote for Question of the Year for his comment on city council putting off buying a riding lawn mower for the cemetery yet again:

"Forty acres with a push mower?" queried Mike. "Did the guy apply for the job or was he sentenced?"

And more things begging the question: Should we be aghast? I hear the new city finance director quit after less than a week and the new transit director quit even before starting the job. ...I guess not working for the city is one way to keep from having an ulcer. ...Kind of screws up getting the paycheck that comes with it, though. ...Meanwhile, anyone who knows the baleful truth is keeping mum. "Me no know" is the party line down at city hall.

Apparently our mayor and police chief are vacationing on a motorcycle trip out in Utah somewhere picking gnats out of their teeth. (Assuming they're smiling and driving over 20 mph.) ...Some say they won't be back for weeks and are worried the mayor is going to miss more city council meetings. I don't think they'll be gone that long, but really, as far as those meetings go; does it matter? Even Obama can relate. ...It's just too dang hot to stir up any more heat by acting on anything...like setting a date for the deer hunt. ...One of these days someone at the table will realize it's the last day of deer season and everyone will jump up in the middle of council and grab their crossbows, then sit back down again because they can't remember whether or not they outlawed crossbows. ... I'm just sayin'....ordinance is as ordinance does.

Meanwhile, the Middle School is packed with kids and alive with music. ...I hear every classroom is full of little darlings taking classes and playing classical music like pros while I can barely peck out a tune on a kazoo. ...It's just not fair. ...Darn that Suzuki anyway.

Speaking of the auditorium, which we weren't but are now, congrats to Sheryl Willis for bringing the CICA festival to town and landing 12 nights of entertainment in the auditorium. She should have a job with the CAPC.

Hey, more congrats -- these go to Citizen staffers for pulling down some awards at the Arkansas Press Association conference. It just goes to show ya ...er, uh, I can't think of what, exactly. Okay, maybe I'm just a little bit jealous.

You can soothe my wounded ego by emailing oliverdeplace@hotmail.com with your queries or pithy comments ...or post them on my Facebook page. Or not. It's too dang hot to care.
