All Zipped UpPosted Thursday, September 22, 2011, at 8:59 AM
Not sure who, what or how many rain dances it took, but that was some deluge last weekend. ...The new mudslide on Grand Ave. now seems to be under control and things appear to be unsogging nicely around town. It's too dang bad all that planning by the ESPD for the Special Olympics All American Weekend at Pine Mountain Village got rained out, though. ...I bet Joe Barabalace would still appreciate a call from anyone who had planned to come and contribute to the cause.
Hope you all got out and voted in the school board election. It was probably the first time some of us had been in a church building in a while. ...Couldn't help noticing James DeVito out there on the lawn at St. Elizabeth's with his clipboard; doing his best (under the watchful eye of Mickey Schneider) to stay 100 feet away from the polling place while getting people to sign a petition for a vote on the City Administrator form of government. Time will tell if it's dogged determination or just dead horse whipping, eh? Not to be cowed by locally-created controversies as well as outside proposals for zip lines, Walmart Expresses, or any other plans people come up with to make money off our little bubble in time, Eurekans continue to come up with creative solutions, like this one which popped up in my inbox: "To deal with all the controversies in town in one fell swoop, how about run a zipline from the cell tower to the Big Dig in Basin Park with a stop in the middle to shoot arrows at the deer?" Personally, I think the zip line should run from the observation tower at the Razorback Gift Shop on US62W to the observation tower at Pine Mountain Village. Now there's a ride I'd like to see! Speaking of wild rides, I hear Walmart is now eyeballing the land behind the Exxon at Passion Play Road for its next proposed site. Be ye vigilant.
