Gummy Diversity

Now that the weather is good for tromping in the woods again, I thought I'd pass along some advice a friend gave me for the perfect way to deal with chigger bites: Three weeks and a pair of handcuffs.

Speaking of useless information, is anyone of Mayan descent (or anyone who reads about them) actually going to buy a 2013 calendar?

Meanwhile, anyone living in the environs of Eureka Springs is probably just beginning to get their hearing back after the constant roar of Harleys and other bikes last weekend. But don't plan on any quiet contemplation just yet. Corvettes will be zooming into town by the time you read this. ...As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to 'Vettes the visuals are well worth the audio. ...Bring 'em on!

So, my question is: will the Mini's Weekend on Oct. 20 -- 23 have a little parade? ...and will the Jeep Weekend on Oct. 21-- 23 have their parade out at Wheelin' World?

Thanks to all the car shows, just in case you didn't buy enough Halloween candy when it went on the shelves in August, you can get some fresher stuff just standing by the road in October during all the parades. ...You have to push some kids out of the way, but you can actually score enough candy to dole back out to them when they show up at your door in costume. ... I like to save the stuff that got run over for the smart alecks. ...Either that, or give the trouble makers a wad of spinach dolled up in a piece of Saran Wrap with a twist tie.

I hate to go all Andy Rooney on everyone, but I see that the next Diversity Weekend will be held over Halloween. Isn't there a better name for this? (Diversity Weekend, not Halloween) Exactly what is diverse about this weekend? ...Everyone is gay or lesbian, what's diverse about that?

Let's have a real diversity weekend with people from other cultures - people of other races - people who cook some really good ethnic food - people who can give us a variety of world views. You know, a diverse group. ...I think it's kind of cheating to call the weekends we have now Diversity Weekends. ...It's like calling a bag of candy a variety pack when there's only gummy bears in it.
