Speaking of.....parks, money and cruisers

So, Arkansas Parks and Tourism has $100,000 ready to hand over to our local Parks and Recreation Commission for beatification and enhanced tourist facilities, or whatever, and all we need is a resolution from city council to accept the dough -- and they don't want Parks to take the money? ...Kidding me? Didn't we park-users elect these folks? How about we call a meeting and the naysayers sit down and tell us exactly why they think a gift of $100,000 is a bad idea?

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Warren is out there "speaking truth to power" while thousands occupy Wall Street and march on the homes of the unreasonably rich. ...Does anyone besides me recall seeing a similar scene in a movie about the French Revolution? Maybe they'll make it as far as Eureka Springs ...but who would they protest?

Big kudos to the 11,000 people we hear have joined up to withdraw all their money from Bank of America. Power to the people...vote with your dollars!

And, from the Life Goes on in Spite of Everything files...Mike Maloney is hobbling around on crutches and in what he calls his Frankenstein Boot after taking a header downhill Sunday while chasing his dog. Broke his ankle and tore some muscles in his leg. Very painful. ...If he's got some good meds, now's the time to hit the CAPC up with your next great idea.

Yeow, are Apple Annie's cheeks red! She worked so hard with the Carroll County Cruisers Open Car Show a couple weeks ago that she mixed up a couple winners' names, and the gent in the picture the Citizen ran is actually Vancil Riddlesperger of Berryville and not Leonard Zechiedrich.

Vancil, shown here on the left, is actually the winner of Best of Show. ...Gee, with names like Zechiedrich and Riddlesperger, I think Annie gets a pass on this one. ...In case you were wondering, the Best Engine was in Don Erickson's 1966 Plymonth Barracuda, and the Best Paint was on Leonard Zechiedrich's 1968 z28 Camaro. (That's what she meant to say....)

And you can say what you mean in an email to oliver deplace@hotmail.com.

"Beatification"??? I really like the parks, but I don't think they're ready to be added to heavenly real estate quite yet ...
