Curbside ServicePosted Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 3:37 PM
Those folks occupying Wall Street, the one in town, on Tuesday afternoons were joined by an enthusiastic Anita Taylor, a gracefully-aging senior who was thrilled to be there. "I've been a hippie for 40 years and this is my first protest," she told a colleague of mine (who tells me everything). When Anita heard what the 99 percenters were doing she was convinced the revolution had begun and wanted to be part of it.... "You're never to old to protest," she said, fist to sky. ....Better late than never, Anita. I doff my NASCAR ball cap to you! Local guy, Reillot, overheard one of the best lines to come out of the artsy-craftsy culture ever over at the Mulberry Mountain Harvest Fest: "Glitter is the herpes of arts and crafts." ...I guess you never really get rid of either one. Now for some truly tragic news for those who appreciate good coffee and grub with their socializing: Rumor is, the Lovin' Oven is closing its doors on November 19. ...I suppose now the die-hards who showed up (even in the winter) with their own coffee and sat out on the freezing patio after the Little Bread Company closed at the same location will be back again, doing the same until someone else opens a place and lets them in .... Hey, why not? It worked last time, didn't it? Speaking of business, have you caught sight of the curbside chiropractor yet? He started out with a kid waving a whiteboard at passing traffic, offering adjustments for $20. Business must be good because now he has a banner. And a car. And a cell phone ... 'though he apparently didn't know the number when the banner was printed. You've got my number: oliverdeplace@hotmail.com. |
