Constitutionally speakingPosted Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at 3:46 PM
The problem with a democracy is, everyone gets to vote .... Like the guy interviewed by a reporter last week in an exit poll, who said Obama should never have been elected "because the Constitution says both parents have to be born in the United States and his father was born in Kenya." ... Now, I know not everyone has a copy of the US Constitution sticking out of their back pocket, but damn, what the blazes happened to basic school larnin'? I'm from Canada, and even I know that dog don't hunt. ... Nor, apparently, does the dog owned by the guy who said Obama wasn't the real president because it was against the law for a Muslim to be head of the United States. Really, folks? This is what you guys glean from a minimum of 12 years in school? ... Then there was the lady who said it really didn't matter who became president as long as they met the all-important country-running qualifier of seeming to be nice and going to church .... Sometimes I'm glad I still have Canadian citizenship .... Hey, I said "sometimes," so back off.
Anyway, I'm curious about how people manage their daily lives when they truly believe the president isn't the real leader of the country. Maybe I'm running on grade school optimism that there may still be a modicum of order in the universe, but believing the president is just a shell for some unknown entity would make the world of politics a little more surreal than it already is. On the other hand, why put us through all that negative advertising and voting crap in the first place? We all know the country...make that the world...is really run by the Illuminati - or at least the super rich corporations - so it really doesn't matter who sits in the White House. Oooooor does it. Power to the people. Oooooor not. Meanwhile, you still have the power to email me at oliverdeplace@hotmail.com. Occupy email! That's the innate danger in a democracy; we get what we collectively want. They are there for one reason only -- because we (collectively) want them there. That is to say, we have met the enemy and the enemy is us.
