Connect the wiggling dots

It looks like a good time was had by all out at the Kite Fly at Turpentine Creek last week. ... Have to hand it to 8th grader Hanna E. for paying attention to her microscope in science class. She identified the tails on one of the kites as looking like "wiggling sperm." Nice to see kids observing the patterns in life. Way to connect the dots, young 'un. ... Not so good at connecting them, however, was a tire store owner in a town not far away who made a "currently unknown" number of attempts to inflate a 16.5 inch tire onto a 16 inch rim. On one try, the tire exploded and blew through the roof of the garage when he went to answer the phone. Dot one. He actually tried again, obviously without drawing the line connecting with the inevitable dot two. ... This time there was no saving phone call to move him out of the way before the tire blew, and he was subsequently airlifted to the hospital, where we hope he's recovering nicely. Point is, as former Eureka Springs resident, Richard Parker, was wont to note, "There's a curious lack of consequential visualization in our society ...." Sometimes not seeing the patterns and not connecting the dots just comes home to bite us.

So, as I was driving to Hat's the other night -- at least that's what the illuminated highway sign says if you're going south -- well it did, but sometimes it's just Ht's. I was kind of hoping the "t" would burn out instead of the "a" so it would be Has groceries, which it does. Anyway, it's still Hart's at night if you're going north. ... So, I noticed Carl and Enid Swartz's 40th anniversary was up there in place of the weekly special. But, when you stop to connect all those dots, 47 years together is something special. (Especially for those two.)
