Old Farts drink $4 Margaritas at Chasers-film at eleven

Posted Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at 4:42 PM

This just in from the Old Farts Department: Someone noted the age of the crowd shuffling into the auditorium during the Blues Festival and quipped, "They must be checking IDs at the door to make sure everyone is over 50." ... That's okay, perhaps all the young 'uns were over at Wakarusa. In any case, the crowd didn't cause much trouble around town, unless you want to count the deafening roar of motorcycles. Even Chief Hyatt called the crowd benign, thanks in part to the bars getting together and making sure there were rides for all the drunks. ...

Speaking of motorcycles, forget enjoying any of the outdoor dining spaces in town if you want to have a conversation. ... And speaking of bars, how about those $4 Margaritas at Chasers on Tuesdays? Good fries, too.

So, the Queen Mum has been on the throne for 60 years. ... Thanks for the news vacation M'am. ... Loved the party, too.

I see some copper head has been ripping out wires from the old Victoria Inn again and selling the metal to scrap yards. ... It will be a miracle if that building doesn't fall down. .. A walk around the outside proves it's already on its way as far as the exterior goes. .. What a waste. Imagine a community center in that spot. Pool, restaurant, it's all there. ... Where's Donald Trump when we really need him? ... Checking birth certificates on Miss USA contestants, no doubt.

If you've never been to the Berryville Ice Cream Social before, and you like ice cream, the Berryville Square will be a good place to be this Saturday. ... My black dog Jake got to taste just about every flavor last time thanks to short kids with ice cream cones. ...

This just in from the Old Person's Science Files: a 63 year old friend - let's call them an independent researcher - just discovered you can't put cold mayonnaise on hot melted cheese. ... "It kind of balls up and stays there and won't move," the report says.

Who knew?

If you knew, tell me all about it at oliverdeplace@hotmail.com. And remember, this is no place for second best.

I would love to see the Victorian Inn revitalized to accomodate a state of the art community center with an indoor swimming pool, and activites offered there for swim exercise classes, as well as other exercise classes offered such as pilates, etc.

It would also be a great place to move all the administrative offices there that are currently at City Hall..not to mention a wonderful area for all council meetings to be held that would allow sufficient room for the public.

How about putting it on the ballot for the city taxpapers to fund this project with a slight increase in their taxes? Imagine our kids, parents, and grandparents having a place to go for a swim with season passes at low cost? And, most important, imagine the public being able to go to all city meetings in a space that would be large and inviting?

There could even be a little cafe in there that could serve beverages, smoothies, and light snacks.

It would be a perfect place...sure wish we had someone who sees the potential of the Victorian Inn for all that it could be!
