Eyes on the North Star StatePosted Monday, July 4, 2011, at 2:09 PM
As we consider voting for our nation's next government in 2012, please watch what is happening in Minnesota. Remember that Tim Pawlenty was Minnesota's last GOP governor. He is now running for president with half the Republican party that still has a pulse.
However, he left Minnesota in a financial shambles before he sought higher ground. Sadly, he also left a GOP dominated legislature, and a new Democrat governor, Mark Dayton. A lot of good that has done Minnesota. As you have no doubt read in the newspapers or heard on TV, the North Star state is closed for business. Their government shut it down last week despite the Gov's veto.
That means no Independence Day camping, hiking, swimming, or family fun for the "great unwashed" at any of the state parks. The common folk will have to use private parks or stay home, as they should. Meanwhile, the fat cats in the legislature are enjoying a comfortable and relaxing holiday at their palatial lake homes without any cares in the world. And why? BECAUSE THEY'RE RICH! Now, let's take a step forward. Take Minnesota's example of fiscal responsibility and extrapolate their solution and apply it to the nation's financial situation. Now, think about the GOP's refusal to raise taxes on the rich and raise the debt ceiling. The likely result? We can all watch America join Greece in their downward spiral to ruin. Also, keep in mind that Newt Gingrich (another GOP candidate for president) brought us the ONLY national shutdown in American history. Do you remember how well that worked out? Now, add Pawlenty's experience running Minnesota into the ground, and you've got a ticket made in Hades. So folks, for some good summer reading on how the Republicans have operated for the last thirty years, just read "The Wrecking Crew" (How Conservatives Rule) by Thomas Frank. AND...keep your focus northward. |
