Are you anxious enough? The American media, and for that matter the global media, doesn't think so. Every day the news broadcasts continue proclaiming the very worst of times. NBC World News is the only program that ends its broadcast with a positive story and that's because Brian Williams fulfilled the request of his viewers.
I believe the media is at fault for the fear and anxiety in our country and it's not just the broadcast news programs. Take a look at the headlines of our national newspapers. I challenge you to find a positive article on the front page in any of them. Out of the media and its hyperbole, has grown the panic button committees. These are the organizations that play the part of "Chicken Little". They report the sky is falling and the press covers their activities as if they were important sporting events. However, this last week we have not heard a peep from them. One of these organizations is the Tea Party. Why are they so quiet? Are they adding more sugar and cream to their brew? No...I think they got what they wanted and now they don't like the result. They saw the stock market decline this last week because they wouldn't listen to real economists. Since then they've stayed in the coop. Yup, the people who spoke the loudest are now silent. They helped build this mess with their radical heroes, but now they don't want to roost in it. The media has made the choice to be the messengers. However, they don't have to be the harbingers of disaster. They could choose to report the unvarnished truth and expose the chickens for what they are...fear mongers. Both our political parties are included in this category. They should be ashamed of themselves. However, neither one of the parties will take the high road. They want us to be scared. It works at the polls, as in the past, along with exaggerations and big fat lies. The only sensible adult in our pre school of politics is President Obama. He spoke to the nation last night assuring us that we are still the most powerful country in the world and we will solve our problems with cooperation from congress. He has confidence in us, as he should, because we elected him to be our leader. So folks, don't give into the panic parties just because they cover their heads and push buttons. Call your senators and representatives. They need to know how you feel and what you expect of them. And finally, the media will change when the scare tactics don't work any more.
