Anonymous Equals Cowardice

Posted Sunday, December 18, 2011, at 4:17 PM

Anonymous equals cowardice in my estimation. I feel if anyone has something to say about someone they ought to have enough guts to say it in person. However, failing that option, if that someone chooses to write a letter, they should reveal their identity.

Otherwise the receiver has the right to subscribe the author any name that comes to mind and fits the bill. The target of the message also has the right to determine the author's motive. The author could harbor intense anger toward several people but the receiver is their choice of the week. They could be a jealous sort who feels unfulfilled in their hobbies and life in general. Or they could be just plain nuts. The motive(s) could go on and on.

If the message has a tone, wording or grammatical errors that has been seen before by acquaintances or people in authority, then this coward is likely not to go unidentified for long. These are some of the errors writers in secret make.

Authors of anonymous discourse are so sure they have covered all the bases; perhaps self glued envelopes and stamps, or maybe disagreeably cryptic emails. However, just like murderers, they always make mistakes.

Think about it, coward.

I'm Enid. No, not the town in Oklahoma, but a transplant to Eureka Springs from Minneapolis fourteen years ago. I'm a writer, journalist and sometime artist. My real love is expressing my opinions on almost any subject, as you have seen in my many letters to the Editor of The Lovely County Citizen over the years. Now, I'm happy to say that I will be writing a blog titled In a Twist for your amusement, amazement or commiseration. Thanks for giving me a read.
