Grab the Brass RingPosted Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 2:26 PM
As the old song goes, "Love is a Many Splendored Thing". My husband and I have been married for forty seven years and it's been pretty splendid.
Young folks ask us how we have made it this long. Our advice to them is we never go to sleep angry. If we have had an argument, we settle our differences before we go to bed. We kiss and makeup, fall asleep and see what the next day brings. It has worked well. The day we married, some of my old Norwegian family said, "It won't last six months." Well, all but one of them is dead. I guess we showed them. You see opposites really do attract, at least in my estimation. If I had married anyone similar to me, it really would have been all over in six months. However, I was fortunate to have found an incredibly patient and loving person who makes me laugh every day. Don't get me wrong, we've had trials during our forty seven years, but we struggled through and came out the other side still happy and looking forward to the next year. One of those challenges was moving away from our home state of Minnesota. We got a lot of "flack", once again from my family, but we became adopted Southerners in 1997. We have never regretted our move to Eureka Springs. Here, we began our second honeymoon in life. We had retired from education, both our children were married and we were free of any obligations. Why not have some adventures while we were still fairly young? So, in closing, I highly recommend taking a chance in your later years to grab the brass ring. At least we will never have to say,"Oh, I wish..." Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Congratulations on forty seven years of marriage; that seems an accomplishment of great magnitude. Your advice of taking a chance in later years is good advice worth following. The problem though is fitting the chances in between doctors office appointments.
What a mile stone. LOL
