Sultry blues and a local favorite
Posted Thursday, April 17, at 10:16 AM
This weekend, a sultry, gutsy female vocalist brings her blues and R&B band to Voulez-Vous Lounge for a two-night stand. Mesa Mitchell's talent and stage presence is said to be unquestionable by those who've seen her perform. Her music is the embodiment of Chicago Blues with a little New Orleans R&B thrown in for extra flavor...

A party with an 'Everyone Orchestra'
Posted Friday, April 11, at 11:10 AM

The live music highlight of the coming week is actually a weeknight show and birthday party for a favorite son of Eureka Springs who's just returned home from a six-month adventure off the continent. On Wednesday, April 16, Ratliff Dean Thiebaud and "Eureka's Everyone Orchestra" -- featuring members of Thiebaud's Mean Green String Band plus special guests -- will perform a free show (no admission but band tips welcome) at Chelsea's Corner Cafe & Bar in what promises to be a helluva party for former Mountain Sprout fiddler Blayne Thiebaud, just back in town this week from a stint in Hawaii and Greece.. ...

Weekend of country, bluegrass sounds
Posted Friday, March 21, at 10:09 AM

This weekend brings several acts steeped in country and bluegrass sounds that are talented, fun and definitely worth a look. On Friday, Fayetteville-based bluegrass band Cutty Rye performs a show at Chelsea's Corner Cafe & Bar. "Cutty Rye is a four-piece band of seriously off-the-wall bluegrass aficionados," writes Peter Read of Nightflying magazine. "I suspect they can whip the room into a whooping frenzy with their bouncy, almost frantic approach to overall fun music...

ANDY FRASCO?!? Yep, he's baaaaaaack ... (in Fayetteville)
Posted Saturday, March 15, at 1:36 PM

There's an OUTSTANDING show in the area this Sunday night I would be remiss if I didn't tell you about. Andy Frasco, the 25-year-old Los Angeles native singer/songwriter/band maestro/entrepreneur/party starter/everyday hustler, and his band of gypsies "The U.N." have been dubbed "Party Blues with a touch of Barefoot Boogie." On Sunday, yes, this Sunday, Frasco and his LA group will throw a helluva party with a 9 pm CD release show at George's Majestic Lounge, Fayetteville...

St. Patrick's weekend: Tons of music
Posted Thursday, March 13, at 12:47 PM

A major player of the Eureka Springs punk-grass/hillbilly-rock sound is Springbilly, who will headline a show at Squid and Whale Pub this Friday night.. Springbilly, one might say, is kind of like Eureka Springs' rotating house band. The group, which could be described as hillbilly punk rock with a bluegrass feel, has played at venues all over Eureka during its five years of existence, which has seen the band's membership change a few times and has seen dozens of local musicians sit in here and there.. ...

Eureka Springs is in for a one-of-a-kind musical experience not once but twice this weekend as two groups rarely seen in our neck of the woods perform at Squid and Whale and Voulez-Vous Lounge, respectively, both in two-night stands. First off, Fayetteville-based, internationally acclaimed group Randall Shreve & the Sideshow brings its wine-soaked flavor of indie rock to Squid and Whale Pub both Friday and Saturday nights. ...

This weekend brings several new-to-us acts to Eureka Springs, including a Fayetteville bluegrass band and a New Orleans-style jazz/funk combo featuring horns! On Saturday, Fayetteville-based Cutty Rye plays at New Delhi Cafe. "Cutty Rye is a four-piece band of seriously off-the-wall bluegrass aficionados," writes Peter Read of Nightflying magazine. Two bands somewhat new to local fans take stage this weekend
Posted Thursday, February 20, at 9:52 AM

This weekend, Chelsea's Corner Cafe & Bar features two acts relatively new to their stage, starting with an Austin-based rockabilly band on Friday night called The Bar Brawl III. The Bar Brawl III started about 12 years ago with hometown friends coming together to play some rockabilly music. But the group has turned into a rock 'n' roll power trio with no musical boundaries...

Joplin band headlines OzMoMu
Posted Thursday, January 23, at 12:22 PM

When the creators of OzMoMu -- Ozark Mountain Music Festival -- had that first melodic light bulb appear above their heads, it was the Ben Miller Band of Joplin, Mo., that was first illuminated. They became the cornerstone around which this three-day festival was constructed; ergo the reason why this frenetic trio will be taking the Ozark Room stage of the 1905 Basin Park Hotel during prime time, this Saturday night at 8...

A killer new (to us) Southern rock band comes to town
Posted Thursday, December 12, at 12:04 PM

Stephen Neeper and the Wild Hearts -- a band new to Eureka Springs but very familiar and highly respected among Little Rock music fans and critics -- comes to town this weekend for a Friday night performance at Chelsea's Corner Cafe & Bar. The young four-piece, bluesy-Southern-rock band competed in and won its semi-final round of the Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase early this year, and since then has been trying its hand at writing more music as a group; when the band started last year, it based much of its performances on originals written previously by Stephen Neeper, who plays lead guitar and sings.. ...
