Aprons at the Re Art Auction

Posted Sunday, March 29, 2009, at 9:27 PM

EUREKA SPRINGS, AR There was nothing rehashed about the original art ESSA offered up for the ReArt Event this Wed night.

Three aprons were created for the occasion by Eleanor Lux, Denise Ryan, and John Robert Willer. These artists are Five star representatives of the Eureka Springs artist community.

Eleanor Lux's kind of won because she's a fabric artist. The beaded bird and trim spoke power to art and all things chosen for beauty over functionality. You felt you needed to have this apron and that big black bird.

Denise Ryan is the Maxfield Parrish of this hamlet. You and I could use the same blue Parrish used in his deep blue skies, and it wouldn't look as lovely or as blue. He had a way of combining colors to bring out the beauty of them all. Denise can do this with yellow especially. Her fine oil painting of the simple banana make yellow speak to the mind as never before. So pure are her color choices and rendering, its as if her work is illiminated by a spotlight.

Willer, on the other hand, is at his best when he looks a little messy, as with the messy little children running like ghosts across the front of his apron. Plenty of black, Willer style. very nice. Sorry if you missed the show. I told you to come in the last post.
