White Street Studio Walk 2009

Posted Monday, May 18, 2009, at 5:09 PM

EUREKA SPRINGS, AR White Street Studio Walk this year was chracterized by fun. Participating artists displayed their bold moves. Mary Springer was the boldest with her metal works. Yes, give the lady a hammer and stand aside. The confident forms of her small scale metal sculptures incorporated altoid boxes and real dog tags.

John Willer practically sold out. Photographer Richard Quick, ceramist Jim Wallace and dry brush watercolorist Zeek Taylor were great, as usual. Eleanor Lux and Karen Foster hosted 2009 Arkansas Living Treasure Doug Stowe who featured carved tops stained black in some of his latest boxes.

John Rankine's photograph of a female manequin with a protective tortise shell took a long look before the nonexistant belly button let you breathe again. It was a manequin. Ranaga Farbiarz had a squirrel-proof feeder deluxe. Asia wore her castle of a felted hat. Barbara Robinson's landscapes took you away. Jerri Stevens deftly idealized the modern woman with a sweep of orange. Kathryn Semolic's acurate 8 by 8 of a wide open mouth got the party going while D G Womack squared up sharp looking acrylic abstracts.

Karrie Evenson had so very Kerrie color palettes in her oils. Julie Kahn Valentine put intriguing emotions in her fanciful figures. Cynthia Dupps went chunky/earthy with her jewelry while the jewelery of daughter Holly Ertel was more of a blingy/sparkly variety.

Valerie Hubbard Damon introduced Moortoof and Chewymonga, furry characters with a green lifestyle. Mr. Shrine's shrines had wheels. Plants trailed from Lorna Trigg Hirsh's glazed sconces and framed the mysterious faces in them. And, in addition to clocks, Nancy Paddock has now made outdoor thermometers fun too.

The weather was perfect, if a little windy at first. Wine was served, musicians played, and art lovers of all descriptions filled the street until well after dark. The 19th Annual White Street Studio Walk was held Friday, May 15th, 2009, 4pm - 10pm.
