What a weekend for music! Eureka's own Jason Freeman and Danish recording artist Emil Friis will perform their own unique mix of blues and folk at the New Delhi Cafe on Saturday night, 6:30 to 9:30.

Introduced through a mutual friend while he was working at Sun Studios in Memphis, Freeman hosted Friis' visit to the U.S. of A. Friis returned the favor, flying Freeman to Copenhagen to record with him last year.

Freeman's guitar licks can be heard on the soundtracks of "Black Snake Moan" and "Hustle and Flow."

Sitting in on the show Saturday night will be bluegrass fiddle sensation Cotton Ginee. She has played with Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass, and Saturday night she will play for us.

XNA Allstars

Ø Although the Cate Brothers semi-retired last year, Earl and Ernie Cates will be in Eureka this Saturday night at the Basin Park Hotel Barefoot Ballroom as part of a new studio collaboration called the XNA Allstars.

But wait, there's more! Joining the Cates will be blues guitar master Jimmy Thackery, bassist/singer Corey Duplechin of Houma, La., singer Karen FitzPatrick of The Ariels, Ariels drummer Tony Walker, Earl's daughter Dawn, who is lead singer for the Fayetteville band Earl's Garage, and David Renko, who was the Cates Brothers signature sax player.

As an added bonus, Fred Tackett of Little Feat, who now owns a home in Eureka, will sit in on mandolin for at least one song.

The XNA Allstars will perform tunes by everybody from Lucinda Williams to Spirit to Stevie Wonder.

Their CD was recorded and mixed during the last half of 2007 at Winterwood Recording Studio on Beaver Lake. Owner Eric Schabacker has worked with such bands as Judas Priest, Molly Hatchet, and Pat Travers.

The party will start at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Crescent Hotel for $10 or at the gig at the Basin Park Hotel.

B.B. King

None other than Blues legend B.B. King will perform this Sunday at the Aud.

The 82-year old musician, who has performed more than 10,000 times in his decades-spanning career, was voted #3 of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" by Rolling Stone.

Opening for King will be 19-year old Kory Montgomery of Rogers.

Montgomery, a graduate of the Grammy Foundation's Grammy Camp, opened for King at the blues legend's hometown festival in Indianola, Miss., in 2004.

  It was his first gig.

Montgomery has recorded one album, Five Past Ten, and two demo albums. Kory will play a special matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Chelsea's before his Aud gig.

His music can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/korymontgomery00.
