The Kennedys Eureka House Concerts Wed., Feb. 13 Unitarian Church * Doors open at 7 p.m.

The Kennedys

The Eureka House Concerts Series will present The Kennedys, Wednesday, Feb.13 at the Unitarian Church at 17 Elk St. The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the music will begin at 7:30.

Last year The Kennedys, Pete and Maura, celebrated their first decade of married life and their first 500,000 miles as touring musicians. Appropriately enough, last year's CD is titled Half a Million Miles. Their latest CD is titled Better Dreams.

The duo perform an exuberant blend of folk, rock, country, pop and secular gospel music with philosophical underpinnings.

The Eureka House Concerts Series presents unique entertainment in a multigenerational, smoke-free environment and promises to have you home by 10 o'clock. Tix are $12 at the door. For details, visit www.eurekahouseconcerts.com.

One Sexy Swartz

Congratulations to Enid Swartz. She won a $50 gift certificate to the Crescent Hotel after judges decided she wore the sexiest costume in Saturday's Eureka Gras Parade. Saturday was her 64th birthday.

Enid writes "The next day, Carl and I went to the Crescent for their Jazz Brunch and blew the wad. The Crescent Trio played happy birthday for me, and one of the staff did his impression of Louie Armstrong singing happy birthday to me, plus the guest entertainer, Jane Vandiver, sang her Marilyn Monroe 'Happy Birthday' rendition to me. I will never forget 2008's birthday.

  Enid, you're looking good girl.

Entertaining in the Rain

* Entertainment, like beauty, is sometimes found in the eye of the beholder.

Eureka Springs Public Works department may seem an unlikely source of entertainment but those of us at the Citizen got a good laugh from their recent visit to White St.

A Public Works staffer was spotted last week spraying areas of rough pavement with, appropriately enough, white paint to mark them for repair. The courteous workman even acceded to our suggestion that a center-line dip of a couple of inches should be repaired.

We have watched several people trip, stumble and sometimes fall while walking across the street. They are mostly people who are new to town. While watching for oncoming traffic they just assume the pavement is level. Most old-time residents watch where they are walking as well as look for traffic because they no almost nothing is on the level in Eureka.

Then it snowed. Then it rained. We looked out the window today and all of the white paint had vanished. Maybe next time they should use waterproof paint.

  Another mission accomplished.
