A triple threat with her diverse songwriting, soulful vocals, and guitar goddess status, Carolyn Wonderland will appear with special guests Penelope & the Unusual Suspects at the Basin Park Hotel's Barefoot Ballroom Friday, March 28 at 8 p.m. to celebrate the release of her new CD, MissUnderstood.

  Wonderland's seventh feature release includes new songs from Carolyn as well as never before recorded material from Bruce Robison, J.J. Cale, Terri Hendrix, and Rick Derringer.

  A bit of a renegade, Carolyn likes to incorporate elements of blues, country, swing, zydeco, surf, gospel and soul into the musical mix.

  Wonderland's songs have been featured on NBC's Homicide, Fox's Time of Your Life and Houston NORML even made a video PSA set to Carolyn's "Annie's Scarlet Letter."

  She has toured with acts like Buddy Guy and Johnny Winter, sat-in with String Cheese Incident, Robert Earl Keen and Los Lobos, and even sang the "National Anthem" at Sturgis Bike Week 2003 -- her 10th anniversary playing Sturgis -- before Robbie Kneive's record-breaking jump over 100 Harleys.

  Kansas City blues-jam sensations Penelope & the Unusual Suspects will hang around town to play an 8 p.m. show at Michael's Center Street Pub & Grill on March 29 instead of their regular Saturday night gig at Blayney's Blues in Kansas City, Mo.

  The release party is presented by Mr. Music, Devito's and the Basin Park Hotel, which is offering a special. Guests booking two nights there will receive two free tickets to the show.
