Spring appears to have sprung, and with its arrival a number of club owners have amped up their musical offerings.

Several, in particular this weekend, merit close attention.

The Sideshow Tramps from Austin, Texas, will return to the New Delhi Cafe for Saturday night and Sunday afternoon performances. These guys pack the Cafe and outdraw all of the well-loved favorites who play there.

At the Squid and Whale on Saturday night, it'll be Soul & Motown time with Taken featuring Daryl Brooks, a very close relative of long-time Eureka fav Cherry Brooks. The one-man phenom Heatbox and neo-soul power group Roster McCabe will bring their Fire on the Dance Floor Tour to the Squid and Whale on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Some of the big clubs, like the Rowdy Beaver, The Lumberyard and Chelsea's are shrugging off their winter once-a-weekend gigs by adding live entertainment on more nights -- and some of the smaller clubs are booking musicians again. Roger Johnson and Friends will be at the Wagonwheel on Saturday night beginning at 8 p.m. and Will Steele & Lynn will play Marquee's from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday. Marquee's Monday night Songwriters' Night is picking up steam from 7 to 10 p.m.

Ah Spring! More gigs, more bands and, most importantly, less snow and ice.
