Barbara Jane McDonald Robbins, age 83, passed away in Berea, Ohio. She had been a resident of Holiday Island and Eureka Springs in recent years, having just returned to Ohio in June.
She grew up in Lakewood, Ohio. In 1944, she graduated from Denison University, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was a teacher and librarian in Canton, Ohio for two years. She worked at the Lakewood Public Library, where she was the librarian for several of the elementary schools from 1946 to 1950. Barbara was a member and a deacon at the Bostwick Lake Congregational Church in Rockford, Mich.
She will always be remembered for her cheerful personality and infectious laughter. She was a creative and loving mother, a devoted wife, a thoughtful and supportive grandmother and a helper to many. She appreciated birds, flowers, clouds, shopping, Christmas, and a good biography. She had a talent for writing clever poems for special occasions. She also liked to create wonderful cards for birthdays, using photographs from her collections.
She is survived by her son, Tim Robbins of Fremont, Ohio and daughters Cynthia Robbins Safarik of Eureka Springs and Christine Robbins of New York City and Linda Lane of Miami, Fla. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jesse, Natalie, and Timmy Robbins and Andrew and Hailey Lane. She is also survived by her sister, Margery McKinley of Brownsville, Penn. Her sister Elaine and brother Tim preceded her in death.
A memorial service was held at Chambers Funeral Home in Berea, Ohio on Sept. 25. She will be buried at Lakewood Park Cemetery.
