Get discovered at the Colgate Country Showdown

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Forget American Idol; do you really want to be remembered as the next William Hung? Let your inner star shine at the 26th annual Colgate Country Showdown, one of the largest talent searches in the country. There are four levels of contests, starting with competitions at the local level, sponsored by local radio stations. Winners go on to compete regionally, and ultimately, some will make the trip to the national competition in Nashville. Approximately 50,000 hopefuls compete each year, and more than $300,000 in cash prizes will be awarded throughout the different levels of the contest.  Our local branch of the Colgate Country Showdown will be 7 p.m., Sun., Aug. 26 at the Pine Mountain Jamboree. The local showdown is hosted by KTHS radio of Berryville, and admission is $10 for those who want to perform, and those who want to watch. Who knows? You might just see a fresh talent head all the way to the final level, which will air on national television via the GAC (Great American Country) network, or even better, you could be the next big thing yourself! Past winners include Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, Billy Ray Cyrus and Sara Evans. It's a great excuse to extend your stay by a day or two, because you could be watching the next big country star before all the fame and fortune strikes. (Hint: get those autographs now!)
