  Irene Cook Blankenship died Sept. 18 in Eureka Springs. She was of Cherokee descent and was born in Tulsa, Okla. on Oct. 27, 1919.

  She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Paul Blankenship.

  Prior to her marriage, she had a career in the oil industry as secretary to John Paul Getty.

  She was admired for her thoughtfulness and independent spirit. We were lucky to have her as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

  She is survived by two daughters, Terrie Hardy of Tulsa, Okla. and Debbie Clarke of Eureka Springs; three grandchildren, Staci VanDerent of Fayetteville, Paul Hardy of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Christen Smorra of Kansas City, Mo.; and three great grandchildren, Eon Edie, Tyler VanDerent and Jessie VanDerent.

  The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the loving care and friendship received at Brighton Ridge health care facility in Eureka Springs.
