Helen "Betty" Diehl died on Saturday, Sept. 21. She was 87 years old. For the past four years, Diehl lived with her daughter and her partner at Holiday Island.
A native of Hegins, Penn., she was a graduate of Hegins Township High School and Temple University. For many years she and her husband owned and ran a general store.
Because the Ozarks looks so much like her home in Pennsylvania, Betty was at home here and loved the friendly people she met in Eureka Springs and Holiday Island.
She had an avid interest in politics, the financial world and current events. Her best friends were the two corgis she shared with the family. She was possibly the world's "longest-suffering Philadelphia Phillies fan" and recently had received a "Phan" package from them.
Betty joins her parents, James and Josephine Willier, her sister, Mary, and her husband, Frank, in death. She is survived by her son, James Diehl, and daughter, Mary Diehl, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mary and Sue wish to thank Joyce Griffith and Shirley Hollis. "Your help and loving care made all the difference."
