Lucky 13 lights up the night

Thursday, May 29, 2008

Another outdoor movie season starts Sunday, June 15 as the Lucky 13 Starlight Cinema presents a great double feature! Bring lawn chairs or pillows to the parking lot at 1 N. Main St., where movies will be projected onto the wall of the Basin Spring Bath House Building.

Music from the Beatles will play from 7 p.m. until dusk, when the movies can start. In Across the Universe, released in the fall of 2007, the music of the Beatles and the Vietnam War form the backdrop for the romance between an upper-class American girl and a poor artist from Liverpool. It will be followed by The Wizard of Oz, played with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon as a soundtrack, a cult phenomenon sometimes called The Dark Side of the Rainbow.

Admission is $3 for adults, and $1 for kids under 12.

But wait, there's more! After the June 15 kick-off, come back every Sunday evening for a different movie, plus live music and prizes. Upcoming movies include The Golden Compass on June 22, preceded by music from Opal Fly and the Faery Pranksters. On June 29, after music by Tiffany, viewers will see Juno, which won an Oscar earlier this year for Original Screenplay. It was also nominated for Actress in a Leading Role, Director, and Best Picture.

Other movies run throughout July, and after a "vacation" during most of August, the season ends on Aug. 31.

So why not try some cheap, clean, strange family fun? The Lucky 13 Starlight Cinema is part of Stay-Over Sundays, which encourages visitors to take an extra day and enjoy a little bit more of Eureka Springs.
