The following quotes are a motorcycle motel owner's comments on esfolk.wordpress.com/2008/05/31/on-the-street/.
"The [illegal loud pipes] noise issue is the responsibility of the Eureka Springs Police Department, not downtown merchants or overzealous citizens taunting and verbally abusing our Motorcycle Guests."
"I am tired of hearing from my guests how they were rudely treated by the same group of downtown merchants."
Well, it takes two to tango. Apparently the rudeness begins at the motel.
[Only] "A total of $2,600 [from the CAPC] was spent [on Motorcycle ads] in 2007."
Please don't whine about getting only $2,600 of free ads.
"I realize that noise downtown can be a problem. I have posted Chief Hyatt's letter warning bikers that citations will be issued for illegal pipes ... We diligently tell our bikers to keep it as quite [sic] as possible when downtown." [But not in our neighborhoods?]
The key words here, "as possible," are like "shrink resistant" socks. They try to resist shrinking, but there's no guarantee.
"I do apologize to those downtown business [sic] that will be adversely effected [sic] by my actions." [We don't accept that phony apology.]
Incidentally, having a sign, "Bikers Only," says all we need to know.
"I intend to bring as many bikers to Eureka as possible while making Downtown's wish come true: No Bikes, No Noise and No Money." [Enough said.]
Eureka residents are generous. We are a live- and let-live community, but we're not patsies. We draw the line where someone ruins our quality of life for his own profit.
No reasonable person would believe it's okay to let a minority (illegal loud pipes motorcycles) run screaming wild through our town and neighborhoods just because our police department is strung out pretty thin.
It's time to keep what's good, the legal bikers, and ditch the bullies who think it's a God-given right to scream in our ears.
