Rex Gentry, a resident of Berryville, was born Jan. 15, 1929 in Berryville, a son of Raymond and Aboline (Bandy) Gentry. He died on Saturday, May 24, in Berryville at the age of 79.
Gentry graduated from Eureka Springs High School and Oklahoma Christian Jr. College in Bartlesville, Okla. and Harding University in Searcy. He also graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with an MA in Education and an ABD from the University of Arkansas Graduate School in Fayetteville.
On Feb. 7, 1954, he married Helene Bequette, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by one daughter, Kim Ellen Gentry of Abilene, Texas and two sons, Jack R. Gentry of Eureka Springs and John W. Gentry of Lampe, Mo.; two sisters, Jerry Wagnon of Camden and Montez Akin of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brandi Gentry of Reno, Nev., Jack R. Gentry, Jr. of Berryville, Brandyn A. Gentry of Berryville, Nicole Stockdell of Waxahachie, Texas, David L. Stockdell of Abiline, Texas, JohnMichael Gentry of Lampe, Mo. and Luke Carlton Gentry of Lampe, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Alexandria Gentry, Cristian Gentry, Seth Erwin Gentry and Zane Clark Gentry, all of Berryville; six nieces and three nephews, Carolyn Boren, Barbara Nance, Sue Bowlin, Michael Wagnon, Charles Spitze, Janette Das, David Gentry, Sherri Smith and Janet Gentry; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one infant daughter, Mary Kay Gentry and one sister, Jean Spitze.
Funeral services were held on Friday May 30 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville with Brother Mitch Rymer officiating. Interment followed in the Eureka Springs Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service, Inc.
