Starlight Cinema swings!

Just when you thought you couldn't have any more fun in a parking lot without a car...
You've had a great weekend in Eureka Springs, but do you really want to get up at the crack of dawn on Sunday, pack your bags and join the traffic on the highway? Add a day to your getaway and enjoy Sunday the way you've always dreamed; sleep in, then amble out for some brunch and relax with activities especially designed for a no-stress, all-fun day.

Spend the day at your own speed, visiting your favorite shops downtown, or perhaps checking out the nifty boutiques you missed down on Main Street.

After a day of easygoing fun, grab some dinner and come to the parking lot of One North Main for a special evening attraction: the Lucky 13 Starlight Cinema. The gates open at 7 p.m., with live music following at 7:30 p.m. The movie flickers to life at dusk, but this isn't any ordinary, sterile, heavy-curtain-and-carpet-stomp-on-your-cellphone-lest-it-ring experience. At the Lucky 13, it's all good, weird, clean fun with an outdoor pajama party atmosphere, so bring your lawn chairs and dress up like your favorite characters, because you might just win a prize. Known as the original outdoor theater in Arkansas, the Lucky 13 has many imitators but only one is weird enough, fun enough and cool enough to be in Eureka Springs.

Coming up in July, the Lucky 13 Starlight Cinema will feature Horton Hears a Who on July 6, with music by Toucan Jam. July 13 is "Really Bad 'B' Movie Night," featuring the immortal Elvis in Viva Las Vegas, followed by Zsa Zsa Gabor as the Queen of Outer Space. Wow! Music that night will be provided by UMzimba.

Gone With the Wind will play on July 20, with music by Opal Fly and the Faery Pranksters. The month's schedule concludes with The Spiderwick Chronicles on July 27, with music from the Fabulous Hogscalders.

Until you've actually been to this event, it's hard to imagine how special it is. If you're old enough to remember going to the drive-in with the family, and unloading lawn chairs, a cooler, and a big box of cheap snacks from home, it's something like that. Except with weirder people.

Admission to the Lucky 13 Starlight Cinema is a paltry $3 donation, a bargain price for a jumbo buffet of coolness. For more info, visit www.lucky13cinema.org.
