Let the kids have their own fun and learn something new too!

Main Stage Creative Community Center has announced their summer 2008 schedule, which includes two new "camp style" programs designed exclusively for children of tourists. Main Stage is also expanding two existing programs to make them accessible to tourists as well as local residents.

The new Drop-In Art classes last either two or four hours and are for ages 7-12. This 10-week Art Camp has been re-designed to include theater/performance elements and is set up to allow children to attend for a day or a week with no pre-registration, instead of enrolling for the entire session.

The Drop-In classes are scheduled from June 9 to August 15 Monday through Friday. Parents may drop their children off for two-hour or five-hour sessions without advance registration. The Drop-In classes will be offered at Main Stage from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

"This fills an obvious need in Eureka Springs," said Main Stage Executive Director Gary Andrews. "It's a wonderful and safe activity for kids to do while their parents enjoy a little time for themselves."

Theater Camp and Art Camp are intensive, hands-on, six- and 10-week programs. Theater Camp is scheduled for June 9-July 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday -- Friday.

This year's Theater Camp is entitled "Shakespeare Eureka Style!" and will be led by instructor Chris Rose at The Gem, downstairs in the City Auditorium. Participants will begin by voting on which Shakespearean play they will present. They will then spend weeks perfecting the theory and method of performance art, learning the technical aspects of theater, and preparing a public performance of the play at The Gem.

The "Drop-In" Art Camp will be taught by Melanie Linker and Vicki Rose. Additionally, guest artists will be featured to demonstrate their expertise in specific areas.

Enrollment for the six-week Theater Camp is $300, or $50 per week. Early registration is recommended, as space is limited. Scholarships are available for qualifying families. Drop-In classes cost $30 for five hours (plus $4 lunch, optional), or $15 for two hours. For more details, contact Vicki Rose at Main Stage, (479) 253-8060 or go online at
