Organizers of the 11th annual Eureka Springs Fat Tire Festival are seeking volunteers to direct traffic during the cross-country race through town to Lake Leatherwood.
Volunteers are invited to meet at the Auditorium at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 20. Volunteers will receive a free Fat Tire Festival T-shirt.
The July 18 through 20 festival is the largest event of its kind in the central United States. For details, visit fattirefestival.com.
St. John's Casino Night Benefit
St. John's Foundation, Berryville, will host its first ever Casino Night Benefit at the Grand Central Hotel on Aug. 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are now available at the Foundation office or by calling (870) 423-5245. Each ticket holder will receive $1,000 in token chips. No monetary value will be reimbursed for unused chips. All proceeds will be used for capital improvements and equipment needs at St. John's Hospital.
Shakespeare camp underway
Main Stage's first Shakespeare camp is now underway. Main Stage will produce two summer camps this year and is seeking contributions to its costume and prop collections, including lumber, fabric, clothing patterns, large pieces of styrofoam, old wigs, costumes, etc. Financial contributions are also welcome. KUAF to air report on motorcycle tourism
A report on motorcycle tourism in Eureka Springs will air Friday, July 11 at 6 p.m. and again Sunday, July 14 at 9 a.m. on 91.3fm, KUAF National Public Radio weekend magazine, "Ozarks at Large." Produced by Jacqueline Froelich, the 10-minute report will examine the impact bikers are having on the local economy and environment.
9th annual Eureka Springs Bike Show
The 9th annual Eureka Springs Bike Show will be held at Iron Horse Stables on Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Bike Show will feature all makes of bikes, a swap meet and a tattoo contest. Admission is $5, under 12 free. No pets. For information, call Sleepy at (870) 545-3418.
Bee Bop Winnie-the-Pooh Party at the Carnegie
The Carnegie Public Library invites preschool-age children to drop by Pooh Corner on Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy fun.
Dance in the Bee Bop Contest, play the Honey Pot game, and have your photo taken with Winnie-the-Pooh himself. Yummy honey snacks and stories too.

Writers' Colony to present writing workshop
The Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow will present "A Sense of Place: Invigorating Your Writing with Vivid Settings," a free workshop led by John Van Kirk, on Saturday, July 12, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bentonville Public Library at 405 S. Main.
John Van Kirk, is an O. Henry Prize winning author, a professor of English at Marshall University in West Virginia, and this year's Eureka! Fellow in the Short Story at the Writers' Colony. Poets, fiction writers, and non-fiction writers will all find useful strategies for bringing the world into their work and grounding their work in the world.

EUU to host Crow
On Sunday, July 13, the Eureka Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will host newly elected Circuit Court Judge Kent Crow who will present a program titled "Helping Juveniles Through the Courts in Carroll County."
For years, Crow has been working with other volunteers to help abused and troubled youths in our county and state, where relevant governmental services are scant or absent. He will describe the needs that exist, some practical ways individuals can help today, and what systems he would like to see improved in the future.

Young to lead discussion for metafizzies
Based on the past two sessions of the Arkansas Metaphysical Society, "Opening the Heart" and "On Reincarnation," Jim Young will lead an open discussion July 14 on metaphysical treatment in these realms.
He will explore the essence of truth found in this metaphysical claim: "The keystone of all true greatness is humility. There can be no greatness without it." The public is invited to join in the discussion at 68 Mountain St. at 6:30 p.m.
Poetluck to feature Daly
July Poetluck will be held Thursday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Writers'Colony at Dairy Hollow at 515 Spring St. This month's Poetluck will feature Gillian Daly of Norwich, Norfolk, England.
Daly earned a BA in Jurisprudence, First Class from the University of Oxford. In 1998, she was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship, completed her LLM at the University of British Columbia, Canada, was called to the Bar in 1999 and joined the law faculty in 2003. She teaches English Legal Process and The European Convention on Human Rights.
Other writers in residence will include: Lenore Norrgard of Portland, Ore., Mary Mackie of Claremore, Okla.; and Chuck Carlise, Houston, Texas.
St. John's to host driver safety program
