Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Frances Pope Milligan died July 20 at 89 in St. Louis, Mo. She was born May 19, 1919, in Berwyn, Ill., to Walter S. and Martha H. Pope.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William B. Milligan. She was the mother of Marjorie (Merrill B.) Weir; grandmother of Gregory (Diana) Weir and Lynn (John) Wagner; great-grandmother of Ethan H. Weir and Eric C. Wagner; last surviving sister of Eleanor, Edith, and Jean; and aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt to many.

She lived in retirement at Holiday Island with her husband for 23 years and after his death for another five years. Skilled at handicrafts of all kinds, especially sewing and miniature making, she strove for perfection in all her efforts.

At her request, no funeral services were held. A devoted member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for 65 years, she wished that anyone wishing to honor her memory with a contribution would do so to any of the scholarship funds of P.E.O., Chapter A, c/o Suzanne Tourtelot, 63 Holiday Island Dr., Holiday Island, AR 72631, or to any cause that advances education.
