Lucky 13 starlight delights
Drive-in movies have all but disappeared (partly because of Daylight Saving Time!), but the Lucky 13 Outdoor Cinema helps to preserve the feel and flavor of watching a movie outside in a casual setting.
The 2008 season of movies wraps up in August with dates on Sunday, Aug. 3 and Sunday, Aug. 31. Bring lawn chairs or pillows to the parking lot at 1 N. Main St., where movies will be projected onto the wall of the Basin Spring Bath House Building.
On Aug. 3, viewers can enjoy a double feature, originally scheduled for June 15. Rain that night forced a postponement. Music from the Beatles will play from 7 p.m. until dusk, when the movies can start. In Across the Universe, released in the fall of 2007, the music of the Beatles and the Vietnam War form the backdrop for the romance between an upper-class American girl and a poor artist from Liverpool. It will be followed by The Wizard of Oz, played with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon as a soundtrack, a cult phenomenon sometimes called The Dark Side of the Rainbow.
Admission is $3 for adults, and $1 for kids under 12.
On Aug. 31, the animated film Ratatouille will delight young and old alike. As a bonus, enjoy music from local favorite band The Ariels. Sponsoring restaurants will have food booths on site, and doesn't everything taste better outdoors? The entertainment also includes the Waiter and Waitress Olympics!
