Gather together with open arms, hearts and minds.

The spirit of Eureka

Everything in Eureka Springs is just a little different, so it comes as no surprise that Summer Diversity Weekend, Aug. 1-3, has a feeling all its own here.

It's classic friendly, Eureka style to welcome all visitors and try to have events offering something for everyone. And sharing the weekend with the annual "Yards & Yards of Yard Sales" draws a diverse mix of folks looking for bargains and fun.

Almost all Diversity events are inclusive and increasingly popular with supportive straight friends and families. A partial list of events planned this summer are pool parties, motorcycle rides, book signings, dances, live music, cabaret shows and the PDA in Basin Spring Park at noon on Saturday, intended as more of a celebration than a confrontation.

A new event is being launched as part of the "Open Arms Spirituality" series. This first year will be a "Spirit Gathering" to honor and support straight and GLBT Christians who believe in "true diversity in Christianity". People of all faiths are welcome to attend. Several events are being planned (check website). There will be Gatherings for other faiths added in the future.

For those able to stay over Sunday night, don't miss the double feature at the outdoor cinema, showing Across the Universe and The Wizard of Oz, with music from "Dark Side of the Moon."

For more info, including a complete list of events, visit both www.Diversitypride.com and www.Eurekapride.com.

And when you get to town, pick up a copy of the Diversity edition of theLovely County Citizen, available in many places around town. For last minute updates, event organizers also recommend you drop by the 'Princess' Welcome Mixer at Marquee's 7-9pm (Dinner available 4-10pm)
