VWs are very welcome in Eureka
A variety of Volkswagens have been a big part of this country's driving experience. Many of those models will be on display during the annual VW Weekend, Aug. 22-24, as hundreds of the 'people's cars' buzz into Eureka Springs.
In 2008, this festival celebrates its 16th year, and is recognized as one of the largest three-day VW events in the Midwest. Whether you're a fan of the vintage, classic bug, or a new owner of the cute modern car, the VW Weekend has something for you.
Some people fell in love with the sleek but simple lines of the Karmann Ghia. Others look back to a lifestyle surrounding the legendary VW van. And who doesn't have a soft spot for the original VW bug?
The weekend kicks off Fri., Aug. 22, with pre-registration at 3 p.m. at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center, the host hotel for this event, and a BBQ Cookout at 6 p.m. for all registered participants and vendors.
On Saturday, the gates open at 8 a.m. for the VW show and swap meet; find that rare VW part you've been looking for, or just come out and enjoy that Volkswagen vibe. Lots of vendors plus special exhibition cars make the show and swap meet the most popular event of the weekend, and there are several shops and restaurants within walking distance.
The VW parade begins at 3 p.m., winding through the downtown area, so grab a spot along Spring Street and watch the fun!
Judging takes place between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, with awards available in more than two dozen categories, and the awards ceremony will be held after the parade.
At 9:30 a.m. Sunday, the VWs will line up at Best Western Inn of the Ozarks and head out for a tourcade through the beautiful Ozark Mountains.
