EUU to discuss becoming a Welcome Congregation

On Sunday, Aug. 10, Jean Elderwind, Jackie Wolven and Judy Jones will lead the Eureka Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in an interactive "wind-up/group self evaluation" of the action steps needed to conclude the process of being recognized as a Welcome Congregation. The program will be held at 11 a.m. at 17 Elk St.

Salsa Contest winners announced

The Eureka Farmers' Market Salsa Contest winners on July 31 were: First Place, Stacy Mahurin of Eureka Springs; Second Place, Susan Belsinger a resident at the Writers' Colony; and Third Place, Dolores Garcia of Eureka Springs (last year's winner).

18th annual CC Cutest Baby Contest to be held

The 18th annual Carroll County Cutest Baby Contest will be held on Aug. 28 at the auditorium of the Berryville K-2 Elementary School at 6:30 p.m.

Entry forms are now available at Nu-2-You, Nita Faye Flowers, De's Fashions, Powell Feed, Giggles and Grins, Carroll County Health Unit and all local banks.

Participants must be a Carroll County resident age 6 months to 4 years. All proceeds go toward contributing to the Carroll County Single Parent Scholarship Fund. Admission will be $4 for adults and $2 for students. For details, call (870) 423-6365. The event is sponsored by the Berryville Business and Professional Women's Organization.

St. John's to host classes and support groups

St. John's Hospital -- Berryville will hold childbirth classes on Aug. 18 and 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (870) 423-5217 to register.

A diabetic education program will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Call (870) 423-5244 for details.

The Stroke Support Group will meet on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the St. John's Hospital -- Berryville Day Room. For details, call (870) 423-4150.

Greatest School Year on Earth to be celebrated

All children, parents and the public are invited to join the faculty and staff of Eureka Springs Elementary School from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, for an open house. The theme this year will be "Under the Big Top" in honor of the building's new roof. The three-ring circus will give students and parents a chance to meet teachers and the new principal, Mrs. Clare Lesieur. There will be clowns, prizes, costumes, balloons and lots of fabulous circus goodies.

Scottie Boosters will be on hand to enroll new parent members and re-enroll those parents returning to the group. And there will be someone on hand manning the bookstore for those students ready to purchase school supplies and assignment books.

ES Historical Museum to hold annual meeting

The annual Membership Meeting of the Eureka Springs Historical Museum will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. All paid members of the Museum are urged to attend this annual meeting which will be held at 95 S. Main St.

Board President Leva Murphy will preside and give her "state of the museum" report. Facility Director Ginni Miller will present a review of past activities and programs and discuss future plans.

In accordance with the by-laws, three new board members will be elected. Nominations will be presented by the board and will also be accepted from the floor by members in good standing.

There will be a brief social period with refreshments following the meeting, after which the board will convene to elect officers for the coming year.

The Eureka Springs Historical Museum is a 501c(3) non-profit corporation. Memberships are always welcome. The museum needs the support of the community in order to continue in its mission to collect, preserve and exhibit the historical artifacts of the Eureka Springs area and to make this historical evidence available for education and research purposes.

Main Stage seeks instrument donations

Main Stage Creative Community Center will be offering a new class this fall entitled "Garage Band." They are currently in need of donated electric guitars, electric basses and drum kits. Home School Art Exploration Classes are now registering

Main Stage Creative Community Center will be forming afternoon home school art exploration classes for home schooled students of all ages.

The classes will explore all aspects of Art Education including studio field trips as well as hands on art creation. Classes will begin on Sept. 8 and will run nine weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at Main Stage at 67 N. Main.

There will be some scholarships available as well as multi-child discounts. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Please call 253-8060 or email garyandrews@cox.net.
