Restaurateur James DeVito models his new electric bicycle at the dedication of the Planer Hill Parking Facility. DeVito says the bike uses a 36 volt lead-acid battery and has room for a back-up. The fully charged battery pack is good for approximately an hour of continual use and takes two hours to recharge. The bike uses about a nickel's worth of electricity a day and can go up to 20 mph. "I've had it for five weeks and driven my truck only once," DeVito said. He said similar bikes are available for around $400.
