Writers Colony to host Zona Rosa Writing Workshop
The Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow will host Rosemary Daniell's 3rd Annual "Secrets of the Zona Rosa" writing workshop on Saturday, August 23, Noon to 5 p.m. at the Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow, 515 Spring St. in Eureka Springs.
Rosemary Daniell, Southern Belle, successful writer, and tireless champion of female empowerment, has led Zona Rosa, a writing workshop for women that is founded on the premise that writing can be not only a creative challenge but a tool for healing. Ranging in age from sixteen to ninety and from all walks of life, members of Zona Rosa discover through a supportive sisterhood, constructive advice, and wacky fun, the healing, powerful, and prophetic nature that writing holds.
Rosemary promises to present new and exciting information and says, "I have lots of new stories of how women have overcome the obstacles in their lives in order to free themselves and achieve their goals. I will speak in detail on concrete means for making achieving our goals as effortless as (to quote Marianne Williamson) "walking through clouds." I will also describe how I've learned to do this in my own life during the past year, as well at other times." Rosemary explains that the workshops that she is doing now -- "while usually made up of women (and sometimes men) who are writers or aspiring writers -- are directed even a bit more towards the whole person, as I believe even more firmly than ever that's the underpinning of it all!" Rosemary's primary theme for this workshop is "Change and How to Make it -- as effortlessly as possible" and she will be speaking at the "Writing for Change" conference in San Francisco just prior to her arrive in Eureka Springs.
Rosemary founded ZONA ROSAź over twenty-six years ago when she invited four women to meet once a month to talk about writing and life at her little apartment in Savannah, Georgia. Today, thousands of women, and some men, have participated in Zona Rosa workshops; Rosemary leads Zona Rosa workshops and retreats all over the country, as well as in Europe, where they are dubbed "Pajama Parties for Grown-Up Girls with Smarts"© (though the occasional man been known to crash these, too!). To date, over 50 Zona Rosans and counting have become published and/or award-winning authors, and others have achieved their potential in other fields. Among the authors are Cassandra King, author of Those Same Sweet Girls, and other popular mainstream novels; John Berendt, who was part of the Savannah Zona Rosa group while writing his multi-best-seller, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil; Best-selling New York Times author Bruce Feiler, who consulted with Rosemary before publishing his first book, Learning to Bow; and Eric Haney, who took part in the Atlanta Zona Rosa group while writing Inside Delta Force, which became the basis for the television series, "The Unit." We've also been honored by visits from many outstanding authors, including Pat Conroy, acclaimed Hollywood actress and poet Grace Zabriskie, Oprah book author Bret Lott and many, many others. In addition, SUB ROSA, or Secret of the Rose, peer groups are forming all over the States, and in locales as far away as Australia. Zona Rosa the Musical, written by Zona Rosans Pamella Smith and Kathleen McGuire, is now looking for a theatrical home, and Rosemary's treatment for Zona Rosa the Dramedy is in the works, as well as myriad other activities designed to bring a sense of literary community--and fun --to women (and men) everywhere. www.zonarosa.com
Cost of the workshop is $75 and includes lunch. Bring paper and pencil! Call (479) 253-7444 to register. Ask about the discount for 2007 attendees.
