Six out of 12 companies responded to bid packages. CBWD estimated the job would cost between $600,000 and $700,000.
Bids ranged from $563,872 to $959,000.
In a special teleconference, the board awarded the bid to Protective Linings & Coatings, Inc., as the low bid and based on the recommendations of the water district's consulting engineers, McGoodwin, Williams & Yates, who has worked with them in the past.
The repainting job will start in October and take four months, said Office Manager Jim Allison.
The tank being offline will not affect water capacity or service, he added, as demand is low in the fall, and the district added a second 5 mg storage tank in 2006 which can handle demand.
Both tanks, adjacent to each other, are located on Pine Mountain, between Berryville and Green Forest. They are part of the water district, which serves Eureka Springs, Berryville, Green Forest, Harrison and subsidiaries.
