At the end of another amazing Lucky 13 Starlight Cinema season that celebrates our community and makes visitors from all over the country feel like official neighbors meeting the locals, it always ends with the perfect cliff hanger -- will we be back for another season?
I want to thank the true heroes of the original outdoor cinema in Arkansas that has inspired outdoor cinemas around our region. These are the neighbors and businesses which support and pass on this tradition to the next generation. Because of the Citizen's policy of not allowing a thank you list, please go to www.lucky13cinema.org to view the list of 34 sponsors who made this possible and support these local businesses.
From behind the scenes success, thanks to my event staff and our parking lot 9-year-old princess B'Elanna Powell, who reminds visitors to Stay Over on Sunday. it's always a joy and a labor of love.

'Just stop it!'

Attention residents of Mundell Rd., residents of subdivisions off Mundell Rd., visitors for residents on or off Mundell Rd., contractors, construction workers and delivery drivers working on or off Mundell Rd. (you know who you are) and anyone else who drives on Mundell Rd., stay in you lane and don't drive left of center.
STOP IT -- JUST STOP IT!
I'm tired of my heart stopping as I scream and frantically try to steer my car out of your way.
Remember, both lanes, not just the center, will get you to and from your destination.
I thank you, my heart thanks you as well as many other drivers of Mundell Rd. Actually, this could apply to just about any street or road in Eureka Springs.

'Eureka!' They found it

I was at Red Bud Riding Stables the other day and met a woman who was also from Southern California. She had relocated to Arkansas because of her job at Wal-Mart and had only been living in Rogers for about a month.
I too am new to Arkansas so the two of us started comparing the difference between California and Arkansas. It went something like this:
"I love the big trees and rolling meadows! I love Eureka Springs; there is so much to do."
"Yes," I said. "Have you walked the Historic Loop? Have you seen the Passion Play yet? How about Ozark Mountain Hoedown? Which caves have you seen?"
"Oh! Have you been to Quigley's Castle? That's cool."
We both agree the number one best thing about Northwest Arkansas is by far, without question, the people! This woman said when she first came to Arkansas, people would wave as they drove by! At first she thought "Why are they waving?" Then she realized it's the southern way.
A place in America where people are open and friendly and wave hello? This, we both agreed, would never happen in Hemet (her hometown) or San Diego (mine).
"Oh" I said. "I left my cell phone at the Eureka Springs Library and after an hour realized it was gone. In San Diego it would be gone forever. But, not here! I went back to the library and the librarian said 'Here's your phone.'"
We both agree -- we love Arkansas, especially Eureka Springs.

Democratic ticket, good for your health
Editor:
Our daughter has a serious form of cancer. She has health insurance that should do a fairly good job of helping her with her bills.
The problem is she has her health insurance through her university as a student. She has now received her degree but she will have to continue in school so she can continue her health insurance.
Please consider this. Something similar could happen to you. We need national health insurance so she can get other insurance coverage and go on with her life. The people who need health insurance the most are the ones denied coverage.
Please vote for the Democratic ticket. They will promise coverage to everyone regardless of existing conditions. The Republicans are only promising a tax credit of up to $5,000. How much income tax do you pay? That is all the help you will get with your health and insurance bills.
