Robert Wayne Libby, a resident of Holiday Island, was born Aug. 21, 1937 in Blue Island, Ill., a son of Robert William and Alice Mae (Mahar) Libby. He died on Sept. 14 at Holiday Island at the age of 71.
Mr. Libby began his railroad career as a fireman with the Rock Island Railroad and ended after 20 years as assistant superintendent. He then spent 20 years in the railroad industry and six years as general manager for the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad in Roseburg, Ore. He retired to Holiday Island in 2001. He was also a member of the Holiday Island Elks Lodge #1042, the WRVA, and HIMGA.
On Dec. 30, 1992, he married Donna R. Libby, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by one daughter, Susan and husband David Dupre of Fort Myers, Fla.; one step-daughter, Cassandra and husband Rickey Gardner of Collinsville, Ill.; one brother, Roland Libby; two sisters, Jackie Libby and Judy Libby, both of Blue Island, Ill.; one grandson, Garrett Dupre and one granddaughter, Kendal Dupre, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; two step-grandsons, Caleb and Ethan Gardner and two step-granddaughters, Madison and Hailey Gardner; all of Collinsville, Ill.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1985, his father in 1993, and one son, Jeffrey Wayne Libby, in 1982.
