William "Bill" Roy Godfrey, beloved husband of 60 years to his wife Judy Beth, serenely passed away surrounded by his family at his home on Feb. 12.

Bill was an amazing father to his daughter Peggy Pot and her husband Martin, and daughters Katherine and Sarah Godfrey. He was adored by his grandsons Bastiaan Pot and his wife Rebekah Joy, and Johan and Hendrik Pot. He was a much loved brother of Peggy Woody and Jack Godfrey (deceased). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends whose lives he touched.

Bill was born on July 26, 1926 in McAlister, Okla., the oldest son of Margaret and Roy Godfrey, and grew up in Madill, Okla. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he met and married Judy Beth Berry on Dec. 23, 1948, and later graduated from the University of Tulsa. Bill also served with the Army Infantry in the Philippines toward the end of WW II.

In his career as a geologist with SunRay DX and later with Godfrey Oil Properties, Bill and his family lived in Texas, Kansas, New Mexico and finally settled in Ardmore, Okla. Since his retirement in 1979, Bill and Judy have made their home in Eureka Springs and Frisco, Colo.

Bill's deep love of God guided his personal ministry of reaching out to others in hopes they would come to know God in a deep, personal way. Bill found great fulfillment in practicing the Catholic faith. In addition, through his devotion to and long time involvement with AA he touched countless lives. He was preceded in death by two of his daughters, Kathy and Sarah, and through this profound loss he and Judy were able to comfort and minister to other grieving parents.

Services were held on Feb. 17 at Little Portion Retreat Center in the Chapel of the Resurrection in Eureka Springs under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service, Inc. Memorial donations can be made to St. John's Hospice-Berryville, 214 Carter St., Berryville, AR 72616 and Little Portion Retreat and Training Center, 171 Hummingbird Ln., Eureka Springs, AR 72632. On-line condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
