John Richard Lester, 79 died at his home in Kansas City, Mo. on March 2. He was born in Oklahoma City, Okla. on Oct. 4, 1929 to Richard Anderson Lester, Jr. and Louise Haley Lester.
He grew up in Eureka Springs and graduated from Eureka Springs High School in 1947. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.
Mr. Lester was employed in the advertising industry as a commercial artist. He attended the University of Arkansas, the Chicago Art Institute and the Ray-Vogue School of Art in Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 35 years, Catherine Tiehen Lester; his son John Michael Lester; and his grandson Robert Francis Lester.
He is survived by Matthew and Frances Lester of Kansas City, Mo. (George, Joseph, Amelia, Edward and Philip); Judy Lester of Plano, Texas (Meshia, Christopher and Jacob); Bernard D. Holsman of Kansas City, Mo. and Jeffrey A. Holsman of Culver City, CA. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Mary Lester Randazzo of Berryville, AR.
Services were held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Visitation Church in Kansas City, Mo.
