Since last fall, ESOA has been restoring trails at the Oak Hill Wildlife Area which is a part of the Ozark Regional Land Trust.
The Oak Hill property was placed into the trust by longtime area resident Mary Jane Frisch with the stated purpose of developing walking trails throughout. It's a pristine piece of property located just northeast of Holiday Island encompassing almost an entire undeveloped hollow.
Last fall ESOA began the process of helping Frisch with the clearing and refining of two miles of existing trails on the upper edge of the hollow. On Saturday, April 25, ESOA will begin developing a more complex trail down into the hollow that will add a 1.5 mile loop that will connect back to an existing trail.
Volunteers interested in ESOA or exploring the hollow should meet a 1 p.m. at the Sunfest parking lot. Participants are asked to bring pruners, loppers, saws, gloves and tools for the clearing process. ESOA is also seeking a couple of chainsaw operators to help clear ice storm damage on the existing upper trails. For details, email Lorri Carter at
