One of 12 children, Jim Hovland moved from St. Louis, Mo. to Eureka Springs as part of the original "renaissance" movement in the early 1970s. Jim worked and played in Eureka for 25 years before moving back to St. Louis to care for his elderly parents.
He was known for his junk collecting (which he always considered to have some practical, useful or "antique" value) and also for his wry sense of humor.
He was a husband to Barbara Harmony with whom he fathered sons Richard and Ben.
Jim was preceded in death by son Richard, brother John, and wife Lindy Avocette.
He is survived by son Ben, parents Lynn and Betty, 10 brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Jim know that we have lost another truly original human being.
