Ruth M. Slaton

Ruth M. Slaton, a resident of Eureka Springs, died Aug. 26, 2009 at the age of 72.

Ruth was born on Oct. 31, 1936, in Socorro, N.M. to Winifred Davis Edwards and Luther B. Edwards.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robbie C. (Bob) Slaton; son David and wife Sandi Slaton; daughter Donna Slaton; daughter Deana and husband Dennis Murray; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.

She was a remarkable artist, musician, and business woman. She was a past president of the Eureka Springs Association of Bed and Breakfasts, Cabins and Cottages. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Beaver Lake Baptist Church. She also organized two gospel vocal trios during the 1960s and '70s which produced two albums.

Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and an inspiration to all who knew her.

Funeral services were held on Aug. 29, at Nelson's Chapel of the Springs. Interment followed in the Eureka Springs Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service, Inc.
