Citizen of the Week
LaVerne Means, a former resident at Brighton Ridge Nursing Home who passed away Oct. 20, is this week's COW. His nominator writes, "he generously helped me with my Hendrix College senior thesis in Globalization and Religion: Aging in Society. During the Great Depression, LaVerne was an only child in a Missouri farm family. When it was time, he cared for his own aging parents. LaVerne kept up with world news, and he thought today's economy is not as bad as the Great Depression. He said it was his faith and his friends that sustained him. He loved to receive cards and letters. He once bowled a 299! Here he is looking handsome in one of his many cowboy hats. My hat's off to you, LaVerne!" Ours too.
