John Murphy, formerly a vice president of a community college in the Chicago area, and Dr. Ken Brown were recently named co-chairmen of the new Eureka Springs High School Planning Committee (HSPC).
HSPC will hold its next meeting on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. in the high school East Lab.
Food Inc. to be shown at Library
The Eureka Springs Carnegie Public Library will host a showing of Food, Inc. on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in its meeting room.
Food, Inc. lifts the veil on the nation's food industry, exposing how the nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and the environment.
NEBCO' spaghetti feed is Friday
GARFIELD -- Northeast Benton County Volunteer Fire Department will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti feed fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Northeast Benton County Community Center at 17823 Marshall St (US62), in Garfield. Spaghetti, salad, bread and drink is $5 for adults $5 and $3 for children ages 5 through 12. Children under 5 years eat free.

ES TimeBank garage sale is Nov. 8 at Enthios
The Eureka Springs TimeBank will hold a garage sale of used items and a sale of handicrafts on Sunday, Nov. 8 from 2 p.m. until dusk at the Enthios Art Venue at 215 Greenwood Hollow Rd.
TimeBankers selling items will donate five percent of their profits to help the TimeBank, which is an alternative economic system where members trade services. The public is invited to attend.
AARP to meet Nov. 9
The Carroll County Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons will meet Monday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in the Holiday Island Clubhouse.
The program will be presented by Jay Schneider, assistant superintendent of Hobbs State Park. He has been with Arkansas State Parks for more than six years, and Hobbs is his sixth park to work in.
Part of Hobbs State Park is in Carroll County and is a rare preserve, rugged and fragile. It is becoming a center for education and conservation, and all are invited to attend the meeting and learn more about it.

Veteran's Day Parade seeks participants
A Eureka Springs Veteran's Day Parade will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. Participants are asked to assemble at the Carnegie Public Library at 9:15. The parade's organizers are seeking vets, clubs, groups, organizations and individuals to participate.
The Transit Department will provide a tram for those vets who would rather ride than march. A limo will be provided for vets or musicians who need a ride to the event.

WCDH writer to discuss 'Women of Iraq'
Kelly Hayes-Raitt will discuss "Face to Face with the Women of Iraq" at the Eureka Springs Carnegie Public Library's meeting room at 192 Spring St. on Friday, Nov. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Hayes-Raitt was the Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow's (WCDH) Carson McCullers 2008 Writing Fellow and is currently the WCDH Gorrell-Nelson 2009 Writing Fellow.
Hayes-Raitt will speak about her pre- and post-invasion trips to Iraq and her recent summer in Syria volunteering with Iraqi refugees. Her personal photos will be on display.

GHSH Adopt-A-Thon
The Good Shepherd Humane Society's shelter is overflowing with homeless animals. To match these lovable dogs and cats with new owners, the society will hold an Adopt-A-Thon, beginning on Saturday, Nov. 14 in the parking lot of the Cornerstone Bank Financial Center on US62E from noon to 4 p.m.
Selected shelter animals will be available to meet potential new families outside the shelter environment, where their personalities will be able to shine. An open house at the shelter will coincide with the Adopt-A-Thon. Beginning at the Adopt-A-Thon and open house and continuing through the end of November, adoption fees will be half the regular price.
Library memories sought for centennial book
Memories of the Eureka Springs Carnegie Public Library will be shared, along with coffee and conversation, on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Library's meeting room.
Local residents are invited to attend and share memories, photographs, articles and memorabilia about the Library as the Centennial Committee hosts the event.
A book on the history of the Library will be published as part of the its centennial celebration in 2010. Actual memories, photographs, articles and other items and information about personal experiences with the institution are needed.
Conversations about the Library will be recorded and photographs or other printed materials will be scanned on-site.
Information is particularly needed about the time before 1980. Persons are encouraged to check old albums and scrapbooks, find that Summer Reading Program Card or pictures of persons receiving a prize.
Those with memories or materials who cannot attend are asked to call the Library at 253-8754 and arrangements will be made to meet at another time.
