Folk festival contest winners announced

Wednesday, November 11, 2009
Winners taking awards during the Folk Festival have been announced by Production Coordinator Raven Hill Derge.

In the parade, the Eureka Springs High School and Middle School Marching Band, led by Chad Martin, took first place and received $200. A second place prize of $100 was awarded to Chelsea's, whose entry consisted of 40 persons dressed as hill folk singing, playing banjos and dancing.

Third place in the parade was a tie, with each receiving $50, between Miss Melanie's School of Dance and the Krewe of Krazo. Miss Melanie's entry consisted of young children dressed in folk-inspired bright colors dancing and hip-hopping, led by Melanie Linker. The Krewe of Krazo entry consisted of Dan Ellis and "the gang" dressed in drag as dancing naughty girls.

In the singer/songwriter contest, the first place prize of $1,000 went to Wes Casto of Marianna, Ohio.

Winning the Queen's contest was Mesha Steel, escorted by Reid Evans. First runner-up was Jamie Ramberg, escorted by Zack Steel and Miss Congeniality was Shannon Walton, escorted by Dustin Whittemore.

Way to go Chad! You have worked so hard to produce a marching band. Thank you for all your hard work!
