Thanksgiving in Eureka

Thanksgiving Dinner will be served at Flint Street Fellowship Food Pantry on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Flint Street Fellowship is located at The Little Chapel at 33 N. Main St. There is no charge and all are welcome.

Persons are asked to telephone 253-4945 to let the fellowship know they are coming.

Christian Science Society

A Thanksgiving service will be held on Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. at the Christian Science Society at 68 W. Mountain Street.

All are welcome to join in the hour-long service, consisting of readings from the King James Bible and Science Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, with time allotted for the giving of thanks.

Elk St. Church

At 1 p.m., the annual Community Thanksgiving Day Potluck Dinner and Get-Together will begin at the Old Elk St. Church at 17 Elk St. where the Eureka Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meets.

A traditional celebration, dinner will be served at 2 p.m. For details, call Carolyn Oakleaf at 253-2582.

Farmers of Eden collecting leaves

Farmers of Eden is collection donations of aluminum cans and leaves to prepare 2,000 square feet of garden space to grow food for local food banks.

Leaves will go into the soil, to build it up. If leaves are already bagged, pickup will be free. To clean yards and haul off leaves, prices may be negotiated by calling Chris "Heavey" McKean at 981-2838.

Doggie Thrift Store sale ends Saturday

Good Sherpherd Humane Society's Doggie Thrift Stores funiture sale will end Saturday, with all furniture offered at 30 percent off.

Society spokespersons state that both locations are "bursting at the seams with furniture," ranging from lamps to sofas.

Fall Antique Show opens Nov. 20

From bubble lights on aluminum Christmas trees to tin toys, the Antique Lover's Weekend at Best Western Inn of the Ozarks will be full of nostalgic items with 55 dealers from 14 states offering a wide array of antiques to make for "An Olde Fashioned Christmas."

Those attending the 21st annual Fall Antique Show and Sale can expect to also find baby dolls that say "mama," pop guns, marbles and games, wooly Teddy bears, brand new tricycles with hard rubber wheels, beautiful china, sparkling sterling silver flatware and even a porcelain ginger jar that once sat on a buffet even though it had a broken lid.

A special wine and cheese sneak preview sale will welcome guests on Friday night Nov. 20, at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are good for the entire weekend. Admission on Saturday and Sunday will be a $2.50 and children are free. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Library to show Man on Wire, Nov. 20

The Eureka Springs Carnegie Public Library will concludes its 4th annual docfest @ the carnegie documentary film festival with a showing of Man on Wire, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Library Annex Meeting Room.

On Aug. 7, 1974, a young Frenchman named Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between New York's World Trade Center towers. After nearly an hour of dancing on the wire, he was arrested, taken for psychological evaluation and brought to jail before he was finally released.

Man on Wire is a pulse-pounding documentary that plays more like a thriller than a non-fiction entry, and was winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Film in 2009.

Dances of peace slated on Nov. 20

Dances of Universal Peace will take place on Friday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Old Elk St. Church at 17 Elk Street.

The dances involve singing of sacred phrases with accompanying movements from many spiritual traditions of the world, promoting simple and joyful moving meditations. Participation is free of charge.

EUU Fellowship to consider 'guests'

"Guest at Our Table" is the topic of Brain Manire and Gem Frederick at the 11 a.m. meeting of Eureka Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 17 Elk Street on Sunday, Nov. 22.

The program will celebrate the seventh principle of Unitarian Universalism, affirming respect for the interdependent web of which all are a part. Unseen guests will be introduced through the work of the service committee.

Hospitality will be provided by Becky Gillette and the 10 a.m. gathering will be an open discussion. Following the service, all are invited to stay for a Thanksgiving Day Potluck with the congregation.

ECHO poinsettia sale is underway

The Annual Poinsettia Sale benefiting ECHO (Eureka Christian Health Outreach) and Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County is underway.

Monies earned will be shared between Habitat which is trying to build its first house in Carroll County, and ECHO which has purchased a building as a home which must be refitted.

Delivery dates to businesses and churches are Nov. 24, and Dec.1, 8 and 15.

Plants will be 15 to 18 inches tall, in a six-inch pot with a gold pot cover and gold bow, have a care sheet and will cost $11.50.

Persons may pick the plants up from 3 to 5 p.m. on delivery days. For directions, call 253-9727.

Museum Christmas Ball tickets now on sale

Tickets for the Eureka Springs Historical Museum's 7th annual Christmas Ball and Silent Auction are now available at the museum at 95 S. Main St., at the Chamber of Commerce at Pine Mountain Village, or from any board member of the museum.

The event is a fundraiser for the museum and will be held Dec. 5 at the Basin Park Hotel, which is sponsoring the event.

Tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 at the door, and include hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer, as well as dancing to the music of the JM Combo.

Silver Tea to benefit Humane Soceity

Holiday cheer will be in abundance when the women of St. James' Episcopal Church host the 43rd Silver Tea on Thursday, Dec. 3, in the Crystal Dining Room of the Crescent Hotel from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The public is cordially invited to this benefit for the Good Shepherd Humane Society and is asked to note the new time for the event. Admission is by donation.
