Christmas promo and contest winners announced

Twenty-five entries were judged in four categories during the annual Christmas Decoration Contest in Eureka Springs.

Taking first place in Category 1, downtown storefront or business (Main Street from Planer Hill to the Train Station or Spring Street at Main up to the Carnegie Public Library), of the Christmas Decoration Contest was Judge Roy Bean's Old Time Photos and Weddings at 29 S. Main St. Second place went to Kaleidokites at 1 Spring St.

In Category 2, home or business within or facing the Historic Loop (Vintage Cargo on Kings Highway at US62W to the Carnegie Public Library), the first place winner is the residence of Anita and Angie Taylor at 25 Kings Highway, and second place went to Red Bud Manor Inn at 7 Kings Highway.

In Category 3, businesses along US62 or Hwy. 23S within the city limits, first place went to Kettle Campground at 4119 E. Van Buren. Second place was a tie between Comfort Inn at 196 E. Van Buren and Pine Lodge at 454 W. Van Buren.

In Category 4, home or business within the city limits not in the areas named above, first place went to the residence of Greg and Nancy Bartlett at 4 Oakridge, off East Mountain, and second place went to the residence of Rusty and Tiffany Windle at 7 E. Mountain St.

Judging took place on Dec. 1.

According to Jeff Feldman, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce, "It was very difficult to determine the winners in each category because the entries were so creative and well done. Everyone did a fantastic job of decorating and making Eureka Springs very festive for the holidays."

First place winners in each category were awarded $200 and second place winners receive $100.

ESDN Vacation Package

The Peek Family of Bolivar, Mo., who rode in Friday's parade, won the Eureka Springs Downtown Network's Christmas Vacation Package.

The Peek family's prize included a three-night stay at the Historic 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa, gift certificates for DeVito's Restaurant and Grand Taverne at the Grand Central Hotel, tickets to the Christmas show at Pine Mountain Jamboree, tickets to the Candlelight Tour of Homes and the Historic Museum Christmas Ball, a massage for two with Eureka Massage and Wellness Therapies, a holiday portrait session with Purdy Art Company, tickets to Santa's Brunch at the Crescent Hotel's Crystal Dining Room and Victorian costuming provided by Michelle McDonald.

Parade winners

In the Dec. 4 parade, judges selected first, second and third place winners in four categories, with first place winners receiving $300, second place winners receiving $150 and third place winners receiving $75.

Parade winners include:

Bands: Eureka Springs Highlander Marching Band, first place; Elkins High School Band, second place; and Hillcrest Highlanders, third.

Commercial: Arvest Bank, first place; Crescent and Basin Park hotels, second place; and The Rowdy Beaver Restaurant, third.

Non-profit: Academy of Excellence, first place; Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, second place; and People Helping People, third place.

Other: Xi Alpha Nu/Beta Sigma Phi, first place; Gordon Green, second place; and Robert Burns Night Committee, third place.
